Mission: Fr. McCafferty Council is dedicated to living out the principles of our order. Charity: We work to aid the poor, sick, and elderly through various fundraisers and outreach programs. Unity: We stand united as one voice with our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI in defense of life in all stages, against oppression of the downtrodden, and for the family. Fraternity: We provide a support system for one another and our families. We grow together in friendship and faith as we work to live out our mission. Patriotism: We support our Armed Forces and our Veterans through several programs and are eternally grateful to those who have sacrificed for our freedom! Programs: Our council sponsors many events throughout the year. Our members are invited to an annual retreat. We have an annual Golf Outing which is our largest fundraiser. Our Winter Dance is always a crowd pleaser and a great chance for Knights, their friends, family and fellow parishioners to spend a fun evening together. Service Saturday’s are a chance for our members to roll up their sleeves and make a personal impact on their community. There are even events for the youth including a free throw contest in January. Membership: To become a member, one must be a Catholic gentleman, in good standing, in communion with the Holy See and at least 18 years of age. Candidates must complete their First Degree in order to become a member.
Degrees: The Knights of Columbus have four degrees that all members are encouraged to attain. The degrees are Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. Those attaining fourth degree status also have the option of joining the color corps and becoming involved in the assembly. Brothers interested in making their next degree should speak to the Membership chairmen, Grand Knight, or Financial Secretary. Meetings: Our Council meets on fourth Thursday of every month in the Old Rectory, room 2B. The business meeting starts at 8:00, it is preceded by the Holy Rosary in our perpetual Adoration Chapel. Light refreshments are served after the meeting with time to socialize. Our officers meet on the second Monday of each month at 8pm. Social meetings are not regularly schedules but are posted on the website, in the newsletter and announced at business meetings as they are planned. The Global Picture: The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in the United States in 1882, it is named in honor of Christopher Columbus. There are more than 1.8 million members in 15,000 councils, with nearly 200 councils on college campuses. Membership is limited to "practical Catholic" men aged 18 or older.
Councils have been chartered in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Guatemala, Panama, Dominican Republic, the Philippines, Guam, Spain, Japan, Cuba, and most recently in Poland. The Knights' official junior organization, the Columbian Squires, has over 5,000 Circles. All the Order's ceremonials and business meetings are restricted to members, though all other events are open to the public. A promise not to reveal any details of the ceremonials except to an equally qualified Knight is required to ensure their impact and meaning for new members; an additional clause subordinates the promise to that Knight's civil and religious duties. In the 2009 fraternal year, the Order gave over US$151 million directly to charity (over $1.367 billion in charitable contributions in the last 10 years) and performed over 69 million man-hours of voluntary service. Over 413,000 pints of blood were donated. For their support for the Church and local communities, as well as for their philanthropic efforts, the Order often refers to itself as the "strong right arm of the Church". The Order's insurance program has more than $79 billion of life insurance policies in force, backed up by $15.5 billion in assets, and holds the highest insurance ratings given by A. M. Best, Standard & Poor's, and the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association. Council #11013 was established in 1993 at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church in Yardley, PA. |
