Pilgrimage - Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

On April 5, nearly forty parishioners traveled to Washington, D.C. to visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to honor Mary, Our Lady of the Rosary.  Pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia accompanied Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua as he celebrated a Pilgrimage Mass in the Upper Church.  Brother Knight Joe Montone was our Bus Captain once again in place of the ailing Father Hess.

Jack Sammon prays at the Altar of Our Mother of Sorrows at the Basilica of the National Shrine during a recent trip.

Trip to New Haven, CT

We boarded the bus early, but we had great weather with not alot of traffic.

Believe it or not, our bus driver was a Nat King Cole impersonator, and he was TERRIFIC!

The sanctuary at St. Mary's Church.

Attendees listen with rapt attention to Father ??? as he describes the interior of St. Mary's Church.

Another group shot.

The organ at St. Mary's Church was built in 1871 in New York City's St. Alphonsus Church on lower Broadway. There are 2,994 pipes, the largest 16 feet long.

Another view of the sanctuary, including the 6-foot, 400-pound, bronze Carolingian crucifix, a signed replica of a work of art commissioned by the Knights of Columbus for the Chapel of Saints Benedict, Cyril and Methodius constructed by the Order beneath the basilica of St. Peter's in Rome.

Father ??? reads the inscription next to the polished granite sarcophagus containing the remains of Fr. McGiveney at the rear nave of St. Mary's.

Another view of the sarcophagus.

And another...

Father ??? described many of the architectural features of St. Mary's Church and their significance to the Knights of Columbus.
Our tour guide at the museum, Jess Mallory, describes the 400-year-old copper cross once held in the hands of a statue of Christ atop St. Peter's Basilica that was mounted in the stairway just over his shoulder.

Shrine to the Unborn

This shrine was dedicated on December 5, 1999 with prayers being led by Monsignor Samuel Shoemaker. This shrine is for all unborn and not just abortions. Our intention is for this shrine to stimulate a prayer for all who come to stop and view the shrine.
